Solutions to Improve the AHA
In addition to changing the culture of communication and trust within the AHA, I’ll dedicate my tenure to working with board members to prioritize the following goals, many of which are influenced by the recommendations from a League of Women Voters, Arlington study. I will:

-
Improve the partnership with the Board of Health to address current and chronic infestation of rodents and insects

-
Create a streamlined, transparent, and well-documented complaint process (an AHA recorded need since 2004) with accountability metrics for complaint tracking, in order to address a culture of favoritism

-
Ensure the AHA annually submits Federal and State grants for additional funding, as well as applies for the maximum amount of available Town funding, rather than leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars unapplied for, as it has done in 3 of the last 6 years

-
Build and maintain an informative, content-rich website that includes a link to the budget, which should be transparent, publicly available, and easily accessible

-
Create a culture where calls and emails are responded to promptly and courteously, within 24-hours

-
Ensure board members are in compliance with State required housing authority professional training, as well as ethics, and cultural competency training on interacting with residents with diverse challenges

-
Develop a process for recording when issues have been addressed rather than allowing issues to be marked as resolved or removed anonymously

-
Update the AHA handbook with real information, not just what happens when your rent is late

-
Commit to hosting monthly chats with board members providing informal opportunities to engage with residents

-
Increase funding for social workers

-
Foster community partnerships to reduce feelings of isolation
